The department of commerce was established in the year 1980. Dr. K. Anbalagan became the head of the department from the year 1977 – 2011 and Dr. J. Stanley Pandian Served the department from the year 1981 – 2016. Dr. R. Kingsley Earnest, whose period of service started from 1981 and after the retirement of Dr. K Anbalagan, he became the head of the department in the year 2011.

Prof. G. Ravindran served the department from 1981 – 2006 and Dr. I Jeyasundersingh’s tenure ranged from the year 1983 – 2012. After that, Dr. S. Daniel David Annaraj was appointed to be in charge of head of the department from the year 2014 onwards. Dr. (Mrs) Felix Francy was the first lady faculty in the department from the year 2014.

Dr. T. Sanley Davis Mani and Dr. P. Abraham entered into the department in the year 2014 and Dr. P. Abraham and Dr. T. Samson Joe Dhinakaran joined in the year 2016.

The B.Com as a UG degree course was started in the year 1997 and M.Com in the year 2004. The department was upgraded as the Research centre in the year 2017.

The department has been providing quality education to get cent per cent results and secure rank in the university exams every year and also to make students employable in the society. The department has 6 well qualified and experienced faculties with rich experience in the field of Academic, Research & Development and Publication of articles in various referred / reputed national and international journals. It is the practice of the department to conduct periodical seminars and inter-collegiate competitions in order to disseminate knowledge in the field of commerce and industry.
